Where Will DeMarcus Cousins Play?

Perhaps The Lakers?

January 25, 2018

Let’s get something straight. This is me thinking. It’s not inside information from anyone associated with the Lakers.

But I see that DeMarcus Cousins, the guy nicknamed Boogie, is having an outstanding season with the New Orleans Pelicans and will be eligible to become a free agent after the season.

He’s 6-11 and very talented. He’s played his NBA career mostly for the Sacramento Kings and lately with a New Orleans team that also has Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday, all making more than $20 million for the season. But the Western Conference is tough and he hasn’t been in a position to reach the NBA Finals, a goal a lot of NBA players have.

There’s speculation that Cousins will leave New Orleans but there’s also gossip that he’ll remain there.

But there’s enough uncertainty to believe Cousins might test the market. And that allows me to wonder if he’d be interested in the Lakers and if they’d be interested in him.

There’s no doubt Cousins would become the most talented center the Lakers have had since the bygone years of Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol.

Better than the latest ones, a list that includes Roy Hibbert, Robert Sacre, Jordan Hill, Timofy Mosgov and the current one, Brook Lopez

Cousins was once suspended by the NBA for a confrontation with former NBA player But let’s not forget that after he signed a $64 million contract with the Kings he announced he was donating one million dollars to the people of Sacramento.

New Orleans has recently made a move to qualify for the playoffs this season after a slow start. The Pelicans became sixth in the West but they’ll have to keep staving off the other contenders.

Cousins was most impressed with his ability to play 51minutes in the win over the Chicago Bulls on a night he scored 44 points, had 24 rebounds and 10 assists.

The last player who had a game like that was Wilt Chamberlain in 1948.

This is a time of uncertainty in the NBA. With the trade deadline coming in February rumors make the media every day.

Cousins, who is 27, would be an asset to playoff hopeful teams. It’s possible he’ll be traded next month but if not it will be his decision to stay or explore his options.
