Services Held For Milt Chortkoff

Milt Chortkoff, Cousin of Mitch, Dies At 87

Milt Chortkoff, who developed his dry cleaners in Burbank into one of the most successful in the United States, died last Wednesday of cancer at 87.

Although cousin Mitch became nationally known due to his passion for basketball through his Observer coverage he wasn’t the only family member who had that passion. It was a family trait.

Milt loved basketball and was a regular viewer of Laker games. Mitch’s older brother Stan played at LA Wilson High before becoming an account. Milt’s brother Burt became the leading scorer in the history of Redlands University.

Milt purchased his cleaners in 1988 and named it Milt and Edie’s after his wife of more than 60 years. At his death he had more than 80 employees, taking advantage of 24-hour service largely because the city’s nearby studios had employees around the clock.

Current plans are to retain the cleaners rather than selling it. The funeral services were held on Sunday, December 30.
