The Los Angeles Sparks of the WNBA are happy to be at home inside the Staples Center. They are 15-5 overall and 10-0 at home. They look like the NBA champion Golden State Warriors when they play at home. They are starting to dominate teams and they are doing this with smiles on their faces. Regardless of what you do you have to enjoy what you do, said Sparks head coach Brian Agler last Monday after their win over Indiana. It’s nice to see our players not only having success but it’s good to see how much they enjoy playing with each other. That builds chemistry. Building chemistry is important especially for a team that has six new players. The six new Sparks players are 6’6 Center Maimouna Diarra, 6’2 forward Ify Ibekwe, 6’3 forward Tiffany Jackson-Jones, 5’8 guard Odyssey Sims, 6’0 guard Sydney Wiese and 5’7 guard Riquna Williams. It feels good to see everything we work on come together, said Sparks veteran guard Alana Beard. I have been waiting for our new players to come together because they have so much talent and they are unbelievable players. The fact that they are getting comfortable in our system does great things for this team.Beard thinks the combination of the old players and the new ones is perfect for this team. I love everything about this team, said Beard. I love the people and their character and I also love the skill level of our players. Another Sparks veteran player, Jantel Lavender, last years’ WNBA Sixth Man of the Year, likes the new players and is happy to see the Staples Center crowd create a home court advantage. I think our bench is starting to come along and the starters are getting comfortable with the offense, said Lavender.It’s rare that teams go unbeaten at home and this team enjoys protecting our home court. We really play well when we push the tempo and the home crowd gets behind us.The Sparks’ next two home games are Tuesday, July 25, against a good Seattle team at 7:30 p.m. and Dallas on Sunday, July 30 at 2 p.m.
