Nine players in the history of major league baseball have hit 600 home runs in their career But only one hit No. 600 with a grand slam. That happened last week when the Angels’Albert Pujols hit a towering drive down the left field foul pole at the Angels’ stadium, a ball that barely escaped being foul. Pujols had hit 598 and 599 earlier in the week. Pujols, the Angels’ first baseman, became the fourth youngest player to hit 600 major league home runs. He joined Sammy Sosa as the only players born outside the United States to reach

600. Both were born in the Dominican Republic, Pujols in Santo Domingo .and Sosa in San Pedro, de macoris. Pujols’ grand week was a blessing to Angel fans who absorbed the loss of star outfielder Mike Trout for six to eight weeks due to a thumb injury. Trout, one of baseball’s best players, underwent surgery, then a few days later returned to the Angels’ clubhouse to watch Pujols make his bid for 600. Pujols has hit 455 home runs for his former team, the St. Louis Cardinals and 155 for the Angels. He has several more years on his Angel contract and Trout said “why not 700?”Pujols said he does expect to pass some players on the list if he doesn’t suffer many injuries.
