Fiesta La Ballona August 25-27 Annual Event Part of Culver City's Centennial Celebration

 


Fiesta La Ballona, Culver City’s “Party In The Park” will be held August 25-27 at Veterans Park located at 4117 Overland Avenue. The popular Culver City event features carnival rides and games, live performances, over 100 booths spotlighting local organizations as well as featuring artisan wares and other vendors, a petting zoo and pony rides, a beer and wine garden, food trucks and a food court, and other special events. Fiesta La Ballona is bicycle-friendly and strives to be a zero waste event. Admission is free. Fiesta La Ballona is part of the City of Culver City’s centennial celebration this year. Last year Fiesta attracted more than 30,000 visitors over the course of the weekend. Fiesta La Ballona began as a weeklong celebration of the region’s early settlers and has evolved into a three-day festival that kicks off the afternoon of Friday, August 25 and closes Sunday night, August 27. The event is named after the La Ballona Valley Rancho La Ballona was a 13,920-acre (56.3 km2) Mexican land grant in the present-day Westsideregion of Los Angeles County, southern California. The rancho was confirmed by Alta California Governor Juan Alvarado in 1839, to Ygnacio and Augustin Machado and Felipe and Tomas Talamantes. The Machados and Talamantes had already been given a Spanish concession to graze their cattle on this land in 1819.


The grant stretched from inland (near the present day San Diego Freeway) to Santa Monica Bay, from present day Mar Vista, Westside Village, Palms, and Culver City; northwest to Pico Boulevard and the Ocean Park district of Santa Monica; and south along Ballona Creek through Venice, the Ballona Wetlands, and present day Marina del Rey, Playa Vista, and Playa Del Rey.[1][2][3]Fiesta hours are 4:30 pm to 10 pm (carnival rides start at 6 pm) on Friday,August 25; 11 am to 10 pm on Saturday, August 26; and 11 am to 9 pm on Sunday, August 27. The City of Culver City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department and the Fiesta La Ballona Committee organize and produce Fiesta with the support from scores of volunteers.
