Ring Ceremony

Last Friday night, in a pre-game celebration, the 2016 WNBA Champions, LA Sparks, received their 2016 Championship Rings.

League Commissioner, Lisa Borders handed out the rings to all the players and coaches, along with team management. Magic Johnson was on hand to enjoy the ceremony.

As Fate would have it, Kristi Toliver received her ring also. She left the Sparks signing with the Washington Mystics as a free-agent when she couldn't come to terms with the Sparks.

After the ceremony, it was time to play basketball and the Sparks beat the Mystics 99-89 to go 2-0. The Mystics drop to 1-1.

The Sparks spread their points around with five players scoring in double figures. Candace Parker was just two rebounds shy of a double-double.

In quite a surprise, rookie Sydney Wiese scored 22 points in 27-minutes as she shot 60% from the field.

The Sparks had an 11-point lead at the half and led by as many as 21-points in the second half. But the Mystics cut the lead to 7-points half way through the 4th quarter. But the Sparks answered with their own run to clinch the game by 10 points.

On a note of concern, guard Odyssey Sims, left the game with an ankle injury and is day-to-day.

The Mystics star center, Elena Delle Donne led all scorers with 27 points in the loss.
