Kings Fire Coach, General Manager

Staff Repor

What have you done for me lately? That could be the topic in the LA Kings’ office today following the firing of coach Darryl Sutter and general manager Dean Lombardi. The pair had guided the Kings to Stanley Cup championships in 2012 and 2014 but lost their jobs following three disappointing seasons. The Kings missed the playoffs twice, including this season and lost in the first playoff round the other year. Dan Beckerman, CEO of the Kings’ parent company, AEG said high expectations go along

with the two recent championships but said the Kings have not met those expectations. He also gave Sutter and Lombardi credit for the championship years and said he regards them as all-time greats for the franchise. Former star Luc Robitaille was named club president and Rob Blake vice president and general manager. At a press conference Tuesday Blake wouldn’t say how long it will take him to hire a new coach. But he dud say the team’s lack of scoring this season would be on his agenda. The Kings had the fifth worst scoring among all NHL teams.
