The Culver City Police Department is recommending that motorists avoid the area of Slauson and Buckingham. Traffic is closed in all directions due to a construction crew hitting an uncharted water main spilling water on Slauson.

Asphalt ruptures as water seeps from roadbed

The break caused several parts of Slauson to buckle and CCPD quickly closed down the street. The break happened early afternoon on Friday.

Crews from the water company where unable to completely shut off the water as there were three private elementary schools on Buckingham Parkway that required water. A worker at the scene said they had reduced the water flow so the schools were still able to operate.

CCPD estimates the street will be closed for at least five hours.
