Another 4th Quarter Collapse For Rams

Lions Deals L.A. Second Straight Loss, 31-28

October 13, 2016

Back to square one. For the second consecutive game

the Los Angeles Rams lost a game they could have and should have won. This time the Detroit Lions rallied at home to beat the Rams, 31-28, by kicking a field goal with 1:29 remaining and intercepting a Case Keenum pass intended for Lance Kendricks to seal the victory.

And for the second consecutive game the L.A. defense failed to stop the eventual game-winning drive in the fourth quarter after having won the previous three games in the same manner. The Rams had leads of 14-7 in the 2nd quarter and 28-21 in the 4th quarter. Los Angeles is now 3-3 for the season.

Setting up the collapse was the Rams' inability to stop Detroit on two crucial 4th-down plays in the 1st half. The first occurred during the Lions first drive of the game at midfield resulting in a touchdown three plays later. The second conversation was a 2-yard touchdown pass.

Unfortunately, the Los Angeles offense led by quarterback Case Keenum was hitting on all cylinders until their last two drives of the game as they scored four touchdowns through the early 4th quarter.

Keenum was an impressive 27/32 for 321 yards and three touchdowns thrown and one touchdown rushing. His last pass was his first interception of the game. He also set a Ram passing record by throwing 19 consecutive pass completions.

Todd Gurley lead L.A. in rushing with 58 yards gained on 14 carries and also had four receptions for 39 yards. Kenny Britt led in receptions with 136 yards on seven receptions and two touchdowns. Brian Quick – five receptions for 61 yards; Lance Kendricks – five receptions for 34 yards and one touchdown; Tavon Austin – three receptions for 24 yards.

Los Angeles now prepare to travel to Twickenham Stadium, just outside London, England to host the New York Giants next Sunday, October 23. Stay tuned for the complete story in the coming edition of the Culver City Observer.
