Olympics Opening Ceremony: A Marathon - of Commercials!

You know that wonderful feeling you get seeing the Olympic spirit, when you feel heartened and encouraged by those beautiful TV images on the first night of the Olympics?

What happened?

I was shocked to see the Olympics Opening Ceremony overtaken by advertisements at a speed rate that could have its own category in the Olympics.

The Olympic Motto is Citius, Altius, Fortius (Latin for "Faster, Higher, Stronger"). This year It might as well be "Faster, Higher, Stronger - Ooops, Time for a Commercial".

The Olympic symbol, five interlaced rings of equal dimensions, represents the union of the five continents and the meeting of athletes from throughout the world at the Olympic Games, according to the Olympic Charter. Perhaps NBC hoped if they interrupted enough, they'd get to add themselves in a sixth Olympic ring?

The opening montage showed Rio de Janeiro's beauty and its beautiful people. I was impressed that right at the beginning, they acknowledged Rio's flaws:
