Third-year USC head men’s basketball coach Andy Enfield, who guided the Trojans to 21 wins and a berth in the NCAA Tournament this season, has had his contract extended through the 2021 season.

“We are very excited about the direction of our men’s basketball program under Coach Enfield and the progress that has been made,” said USC athletic director Pat Haden. “We look forward to continued progress and we believe that with this contract extension Coach Enfield will bring stability and success to USC men’s basketball for the long term.”

“The men’s basketball staff is very appreciative of the great leadership and support from our administration and we are very thankful to have talented players in our program who are terrific representatives of USC,” said Enfield. “We look forward to an offseason of continued development for our players that will set the foundation for an exciting 2016-17 season.”

Enfield came to USC prior to the 2014 season after guiding Florida Gulf Coast to the 2013 NCAA Sweet Sixteen as a No. 15 seed. After building the foundation of the program during his first two seasons at USC, his 2016 Trojans posted a 21-13 record and tied for sixth in the tough Pac-12 Conference. USC’s 8.5 game improvement during the regular season was the most by any Power 5 conference team in the country.

The Trojans averaged 80.5 points per game, their most per game since the 1991 season and second among all Pac-12 teams in 2016. USC also held opponents to 41.7 percent shooting, third-best among conference teams last season. Six different Trojans averaged at least 9.8 points per game and USC made a school-record 266 three-point baskets. USC also set the school record for blocks in a season with 182, which ranked 15th in the country.
