Bank Robbery Suspects Captured

Security Guard Foils Attempted Robbery

January 28, 2016

After an extensive dragnet of the city involving five police agencies the Culver City Police Department took the final two suspects into custody at their homes in Los Angeles.

The saga began last Thursday, January 21 at 9:05 am when the longtime bank security guard Ricky James noticed the suspect enter One West Bank located at 10784 Jefferson Boulevard in the Raintree Shopping Center.

James noticed the suspicious nature of the suspects and he confronted them. One suspect pulled a gun and fired multiple shots at the security guard. No one was injured. The guard quickly retreated into the bank and watched the suspects flee out of the parking lot into an awaiting vehicle.

The Culver City Police Department was alerted about the bank robbery and shots were fired.

A short time later residents reported one of the suspects was seen running through the residential neighborhood near Hannum Avenue and Sawtelle Boulevard. Officers responded to the area and after a brief foot pursuit arrested the suspect without incident. A short time later a second suspect was arrested at the TJ Maxx in the Studio Village shopping center after store employees alerted police.

With help from the Santa Monica and Beverly Hills Police Departments, as well as police helicopters from the Los Angeles Police Department and Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, an extensive neighborhood search for other suspects was conducted. Police blocked much of the area while a house to house search took place. No additional suspects were found, but the suspect vehicle was located and evidence of the crime was found in the vehicle.

The remaining suspects were quickly identified and apprehended within 24 hours of the crime near their homes in the city of Los Angeles.

Criminal charges were filed with the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office against all of the suspects for attempted robbery and attempted murder.
