Former UCLA star running back Mel Farr has died at 70 of unknown causes.

Farr went on to the NFL for seven years with the Detroit Lions. In 1967 Farr was the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year and his teammate, Lem Barney, was the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.

They became close friends and Barney described Farr as “an ideal teammate.”

Later Farr became successful in the automobile business. At one time he had 11 dealerships.
