• Culver City's Free Boulevard Music Summer Festival Continues! - Boulevard Music is presenting concerts on Thursday evenings at 7 pm through August 13tin the City Hall courtyard. Produced by Gary Mandell of Culver City’s Boulevard Music, Culver City’s Boulevard Music Summer Festival offers something for everyone.

On Thursday, July 23 the band Hot Lips & Fingertips took the stage. This band incorporates elements of Celtic music, country (western & swing, too) blues, Cajun, Baroque, rock & roll and more.

On Thursday, July 30 The Hot Club of Cowtown performs Hot Jazz and Western Swing, as one of the hottest Western Swing group on the planet.

• Airport Marina Honda and Ford – Building plans were submitted on July 8 to install 12 in-ground automotive lifts for Honda and 15 in-ground automotive lifts for Ford, at 6002 Centinela Avenue.

• Transwestern Comm. Services – Building plans were approved on June 23r for a tenant improvement and remodel for offices at 6101 Centinela Avenue.

• Symantec – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on July 7 for a 1,125 square foot tenant improvement to create a large conference room and a data room at 800 Corporate Pointe.

• Devachan Salon – A final inspection was completed by the Building Safety Division on June 9 for a new salon at 9355 Culver Boulevard.

• Picnic L.A. – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on June 25 for a 2,932 square foot renovation of an existing café at 9900 Culver Boulevard.

• Yalla – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on June 18 for a new Mediterranean restaurant at 9516 Culver Boulevard.

• On Duquesne, LLC – The Building Safety Division issued a Certificate of Occupancy on July 7 for seven new townhomes at 4141 Duquesne Avenue.

• J & C Associates – A final inspection was completed by the Building Safety Division on July 7 for a façade remodel, minor interior improvements in common areas, and restroom improvements, including ADA (American Disabilities Act) upgrades, at 5855 Green Valley Circle.

• Apple/Beats by Dre – Building plans were approved on June 16 for a new gym in an existing building at 8600 Hayden Place. The Building Safety Division issued a permit on June 24 for a 594-square foot interior office reconfiguration for “iAds”, and building plans were submitted on June 29, for an interior reconfiguration of the “B-Office” at 8550 Higuera Street.

• Sherwin Williams – Building plans were approved on June 18 for a 7,627 square foot tenant improvement at 11513 Jefferson Boulevard.

• Target – Building plans were approved on July 2 for interior remodeling of the existing Target store within the Entertainment and Home sections and the addition of Self-checkout lanes at 10820 Jefferson Boulevard.

• Runyon Group – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on June 24 for a 29,994 square foot tenant improvement, demolishing the roof for an internal courtyard, remodeling existing space, and change of occupancy from existing office/warehouse to business/retail at 8921 Lindblade Street.

• Bombet Hospitality Group – Building plans were approved on June 25 for the interior renovation of an existing restaurant, including a new kitchen design, new store front and entry door, and a barbecue grill and hood at each table, located at 3829 Main Street.

• Holy Cow – A final inspection was completed by the Building Safety Division on June 16 for a new restaurant at 4130 Sepulveda Boulevard (Culver Crossroads).

• Stride Rite – Building plans were approved on July 8 for a 1,831 square foot tenant improvement for an existing retail store at Westfield Culver City.

• Sprouts Farmers Market – Building plans were submitted on July 1 for the relocation of existing equipment and the renovation of a salad bar at 5660 Sepulveda Boulevard.

• Punch Studios – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on June 17 adding 3,507 square feet of new second floor office space, adding a new exterior stairway, and revising the subterranean parking at 6025 Slauson Avenue.

• The Willows Community School – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on June 18 to demolish the loading dock and in-fill the dock with a landscaped avenue, trees, and benches at 8520 Warner Drive.

• Salar Investment – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on June 29 for a 4,328 square foot third floor addition, and a 3,995 square foot terrace, new kitchen, and restroom on first floor of a property at 5965 Washington Boulevard.

• Hatchet Hall – A final inspection was completed by the Building Safety Division on June 16 for a new restaurant at 12517 Washington Boulevard.

• Regional Investment & Management – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on June 24 for a tenant improvement, with new stairs and a roof deck at 6122 Washington Boulevard.

• Petco Unleashed – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on June 1 for an 850 square foot tenant improvement of the existing pet wash, reconfiguration of room, and new finishes at 13411 Washington Boulevard.

• Yoga Salt – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on June 30 for a new yoga studio at 11957 Washington Boulevard.

• Kaiser Permanente – Building plans were approved on July 6 for the “Behavioral Health Offices”, remodeling existing group rooms to office space at 12001 Washington Boulevard.

• Kaiser Foundation Health Plan – The Building Safety Division issued a permit on July 7 for reception area remodel at 12001 Washington Boulevard.

• Sony Pictures Entertainment – The Building Safety Division issued the following permits for Sony Pictures Entertainment, at 10202 Washington Boulevard.

 June 22 – A permit was issued to convert open office space into office #1406 on the first floor of the “Thalberg” Building.

 June 2 - A permit was issued for an interior tenant improvement on the 1st floor of the “Jimmy Stewart” Building.

 July 8 - A permit was issued for an 880 square foot tenant improvement, renovation, and reconfiguration of the collaborative release board.

 July 8 - Building plans were submitted for an office tenant improvement on the ground floor of the "Jimmy Stewart” building.

 June 30 – Building plans were submitted for the Lean Building Center’s reconfiguration of wall partitions, new doors, new lighting, and new windows.

• The Shop – Building plans were submitted on June 25 for a new retail store and cafe, at 8820 Washington Boulevard, The Platform.

• Squeak E Clean – Building plans were submitted on June 19, for an 8,360 square foot tenant improvement of office space and edit rooms at 8533 Washington Boulevard.

Fire Department

• Department Promotions – With the retirement of Assistant Chief Chris Syverson, Fire Marshal Mike Bowden was appointed as the next Assistant Fire Chief, and Battalion Chief Brian Savage was selected for the Fire Marshal role. In addition, after contending in a highly competitive promotional process, EMS Coordinator/Captain Rob Kohlhepp was promoted to Battalion Chief, Captain Roger Braum was promoted to EMS Coordinator, Engineer Dave Rindels was promoted to Fire Captain, and Acting Fire Engineer Mauricio Blanco was promoted to Fire Engineer.

Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department

• The Culver City Volunteer Program – There are many upcoming volunteer opportunities in the City of Culver City community. Some volunteer opportunities include: Shoes for Homeless shoe sorting on Jackson Avenue, Saturday, August 1, 2 pm to– 3 pm; CicLavia, Downtown Culver City Hub, Sunday, August 9, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Fiesta La Ballona, Culver City’s Party in the Park, Friday-Sunday, August 28 to 30, 9 am to 8 pm.

• Senior Center “Ask the Nurse” and “Ask the Therapist” – Los Angeles County staff is available to the public ages 50 and older to answer questions regarding mental health issues such as feelings of isolation or depression, difficulty in communication, domestic violence, elder or financial abuse, when to seek counseling or therapy, medications and side effects, general wellness, and medical conditions, as well as taking vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure and weight. “Ask the Nurse” and “Ask the Therapist” are offered at the Senior Center from 9 am ton noon on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month. This is a free service.

• Culver City After School Recreation Program Registration – Registration for the Culver City After School Recreation Program (CCARP) has begun for the 2015-2016 school year for prior-year CCARP students. Registration for new students (who are also Culver City residents) began on Saturday, July 18. New, non-resident student registration begins on Saturday, July 25. This program features structured, quiet time for homework assistance, timed daily activity rotations, and reading stations at each afterschool site. Police Department

• Homeless Outreach with Los Angeles County Mental Health Department - On July 9Irma Maldonado and Colleen Mieke, both clinicians from Los Angeles County Mental Health Department, partnered with Lt. Bill Browne and contacted several homeless people within the city. This outreach program is designed to help homeless individuals with resources to help find them shelter, medical care, and address other issues they may be facing. This was the first direct collaboration with the Health Department and the Police Department.

• Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Leadership Academy - On July 16 Lieutenant Sam Agaiby completed and graduated from the LAPD Leadership Program. The program includes 136 hours of classroom learning and understanding leadership theories.

Public Works Department

• Construction Updates

1. Southern California Edison (SCE) will be replacing 7 utility poles in the alley behind 4301 - 4411 Sepulveda Boulevard. The alley will be closed to through traffic during the pole replacements. The work is expected to be completed by July 2h.

2. VCI Construction will be performing directional boring work to install conduit on Slauson Avenue and Bristol Parkway for new fiber optic cable. This work is expected to be completed by July 2h.

3. Golden State Water will be installing a new water main and water service on Perry Drive between Fairfax Avenue and La Cienega Boulevard. The work is expected to be completed by July 24.

4. SCE will conduct vault removal and replacement on Flaxton Street east of Drakewood Avenue this week. This work is expected to be completed in two weeks.

5. Del Amo Construction will continue working on Washington Boulevard and on Landmark Street reconstructing the sidewalk, curb, and gutter. Lane closures will affect traffic on Washington Boulevard between Robertson and National Boulevards. There will be lane closures on Washington Boulevard intermittently through August to accommodate this work.

Transportation Department

• Roundtable Discussion with Congresswoman Karen Bass - On Sunday, June 28t Transportation Director Art Ida participated in a Metro Roundtable Discussion with Congresswoman Karen Bass, new Metro CEO Phil Washington, Metro Director Jacquelyn Dupont-Walker, Councilman-Elect Marqueece Harris-Dawson, along with civic and community leaders at the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook facility. Metro CEO Washington discussed his vision for the future as well as access to jobs, job training, and expanded Metro public transportation options. Mr. Ida will be working with Metro CEO Washington to enhance public transportation in our region.
