Well, here’s a most unusual story to begin the 2015 college football season.

Hip hop music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, the father of UCLA defensive back Justin Combs, was arrested by UCLA police and charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon (a kettlebeck) and one count of making terrorist threats Monday following a confrontation with Bruin assistant coach Sal Alosi.

A kettlebeck is a piece of weightlifting equipment. It has a handle with a sharp edge.

Diddy Combs was apparently upset because the coach was yelling at the player.

Combs’ representatives said he was merely defending himself. The charges were dropped Tuesday with the stipulation that Diddy Combs won’t be allowed to attend any more Bruin practices.

Alosi spent nine years in the NFL before Bruin head coach Jim Mora hired him in 2012.

Past Bruin players have talked about Alosi’s intensity.

“On a scale of one to ten his intensity is a 12,” said former Bruin player Andrew Abbott.

On Monday Mora said “I’m happy with the professionalism our staff showed in handling this situation. This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved.”

Official practice hasn’t started yet, so this was an off-season workout.

UCLA will begin its 2015 schedule on Saturday, Sept. 5 against Virginia at the Rose Bowl.
