Community Development

• Symantec – Plans have been submitted to the Building Safety Division for a 1,125 square foot tenant improvement to demolish a non-load bearing demising wall between two conference rooms to create one large conference room and to construct new walls to create a data room within the existing space of the building at 800 Corporate Pointe.

• Scopley – A final inspection was completed by the Building Safety

Division on 5/21/15 for a 27,241 square foot tenant improvement to an existing one story commercial space at 3530 Hayden Avenue. Scopely is the leading touchscreen entertainment network. Founded in 2011, Scopely partners and collaborates with elite game developers and global entertainment companies to bring industry leading distribution and monetization technology to free to play games.

• HOK – A building permit has been issued by the Building Safety Division for a 3,800 square foot tenant improvement to remove walls to open up existing commercial office space at 9530 Jefferson Boulevard. HOK is a global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm.

• NantWorks – The Building Safety Division has issued a permit for a tenant improvement to add interior partitions to an existing open office area and remove the storefront from an existing private office at 9920 Jefferson Boulevard. NantWorks is the vision of Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, scientist, inventor and technologist, dedicated to reinventing healthcare, mobility and media.

• Kiko USA – Plans have been submitted to the Building Safety Division for a 1,449 square foot tenant improvement for a new cosmetic retail space located at Westfield Culver City.

• Sao Acai – The Building Safety Division has issued a building permit for a new smoothie café located at The Platform at 8850 Washington Boulevard.

• Unleashed by PetCo – The Building Safety Division has approved plans submitted for an 850 square foot tenant improvement of the existing pet wash room at 13411 Washington Boulevard.

• Soulcycle – The Building Safety Division has approved plans submitted for a new 7,422 square foot indoor cycling gym located at The Platform at 8810 Washington Boulevard.

• Chop Daddy’s – A final building inspection was completed by the Building Safety Division on May 26 for a new southern BBQ restaurant at 9552 Washington Boulevard.

• Sony Pictures Entertainment – Plans have been submitted to the Building Safety Division for an 880 square foot tenant improvement, renovating the reconfiguration of interior partitions of the collaborative release board on the second floor at 10202 Washington Boulevard.

• Sony Pictures Entertainment – Plans have been submitted to the Building Safety Division to convert open office space into an office #1406 on the first floor of the Thalberg Building at 10202 Washington Boulevard.

• Sony Pictures Entertainment – The Building Safety Division has issued a permit for the interior renovation and reconfiguration of partitions on the first floor and new finishes on the second floor offices of the Thalberg Annex Building at 10202 Washington Boulevard.

• Edgar Romero – The Building Safety Division has issued a permit for a 2,100 square foot tenant improvement to convert the existing garage into an office, remodel of the kitchen and bathrooms, and adding non-bearing partitions at 11280 Washington Boulevard.

• Kaiser Permanente – Plans have been submitted to the Building Safety Division for remodeling of the reception area at 12001 Washington Boulevard.

• Arts District Summer Crawl – The Arts District invites the community to come explore their unique collection of galleries, restaurants, and specialty retail on June 20 from 3 pm to 6. The event is a casual, self-guided tour of the Arts District with art galleries featuring works from new and distinguished artists. • Washington-Centinela – The City has executed an eleventh extension of the Letter Agreement for administrative approval pursuant to the original agreement.

• Hayden Tract Spur – The City and the Hayden Tract Owners Association have executed a Funding Advance Agreement for a subsurface investigation of the Spur property prior to commissioning the next stage of the design process.

Police Department

• Meeting with Culver City Historian Julie Lugo Cerra: On May 28 Chief Scott Bixby met with Honorary City Historian Julie Lugo Cerra to discuss the history of the Culver City Police Department. The exchange of information was very informative and gave Chief Bixby the opportunity to share his experience during his 35 years of being a Culver City Police Officer.

• Connecting the Dots: On Tuesday June 4 Assistant Chief Chris Gutierrez and Captains Ron Iizuka and Allen Azran attended the Urban Security and Technology Innovation Roundtable in the City of Irvine. The goal of this roundtable was a discussion to understand the role technology plays in our community’s safety and how fast technology changes in a short period of time.

• South Bay Commanders Meeting: On June 5 Captains Ron Iizuka and Allen Azran attended the South Bay Commanders meeting hosted at the El Segundo Police Department. These meetings are held to help promote a regional approach to identifying and addressing crime trends and current issues facing law enforcement. The area’s commanders represent the following police departments: Torrance, Redondo Beach, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Gardena, LA County Sheriffs and the California Highway Patrol.

Public Works Department

• City Staff Meets with Studio Estates Residents – On Saturday, May 30 a community field meeting was held with the property owners of Studio Estates regarding new plantings for Landscape Maintenance District #1. This District was established when the Studio Estates Tract development occurred about 35 years ago for the purpose of maintaining the (then) new landscaping along Culver Boulevard and Elenda Street sides of Studio Estates. The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department Parks Manager Patrick Reynolds and Public Works Department Engineering Services Manager Mate Gaspar held the meeting and discussed various options with the property owners on improving the District’s landscaping. A follow-up community meeting will be conducted later this year to present the design of the new landscaping.

• Free Hazardous Waste Drop Collection – Culver City residents will have the opportunity to safely dispose of household hazardous waste free of charge at a Countywide Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event that will take place in the City of Culver City at the Wende Museum Parking lot located at 10808 Culver Boulevard on Saturday June 27 from 9 am to 3 pm.

Collect unwanted household hazardous waste items and leave them in their original container, place them in a cardboard box, and drive to the collection site. The entire process only takes a few minutes and you never have to leave your car. No explosives or radioactive materials, tires or waste from business will be accepted. • Lion Fountain Tile Replacement and Repairs – The damaged tiles and plumbing of the Lion Fountain in Town Plaza were repaired on Saturday, June 6. The work was completed the same day and will consist of repairing damaged PVC piping, replacing dried out solenoids, and repairing two damaged surface tiles.

• Construction Updates

Del Amo Construction will begin removal and replacement of the sidewalk and curb and gutter on Washington Boulevard., east and west of Landmark Street, and on Landmark Street. There will be lane closures on Washington Boulevard intermittently through the month of June to accommodate this work.
