CCPD Warns of Phone Scam

April 23, 2015

On Tuesday the Culver City Police Department received numerous calls from residents reporting a phone scam.

In each case, the suspect would identify himself as Culver City Police Sergeant Wallace, or Sergeant Wallace from another agency. Each call was similar with the suspect stating that a subject in the household had a warrant. The suspect would then demand payment over the phone and threaten the residents with arrest if no payment was received. The Culver City Police Department would like to remind the public to be aware of phone scams and do not give your personal/financial information to anyone over the phone.

It is a crime in California to impersonate a police officer and anyone who believes they have been contacted by someone representing themselves as a police officer should contact the Culver City Police Department to verify the officer's identity.
