Clippers Coach Doc Rivers, who guided the team to a franchise-record 57 regular-season wins last season and magnificently kept the team afloat during a turbulent ownership scandal, has been selected the 2014 Coach of the Year by the L.A. Sports Council.

Rivers will be honored at the 10th Annual LA Sports Awards, presented by Coca-Cola, which will be held on Sunday, March 15 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Rivers succeeded in keeping the Clippers together during a playoff run under what may be the most challenging set of off-court circumstances an NBA head coach has ever had to face.

With the franchise engulfed in controversy regarding its owner, Rivers steered the Clippers to a seven-game first round series win over Golden State. For players, staff members, employees and fans, Rivers was a stabilizing presence and became the face of the organization while the saga played out over several months.

The LA Sports Awards are produced annually by the Sports Council to celebrate the greatest moments of the year in sports in the Los Angeles/Orange County area.

The awards dinner and gala will be televised by Fox Sports West/Prime Ticket (air dates TBA). The show will include special appearances by some of the athletes whose achievements helped make 2014 such a memorable sports year.

The ceremony also will feature the presentation of the Sportsman, Sportswoman, and Sports Executive of the Year awards, plus a countdown of the Top 10 moments.

Previous honorees are: John Savage, UCLA baseball (2013); Darryl Sutter, Kings (2012); Lane Kiffin, USC football (2011); Bruce Arena, Galaxy (2010); Mike Scioscia, Angels (2009); Phil Jackson, Lakers (2008).
