Get ready for an afternoon of fun when Rockin’ at the Beach hits the shores of the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Sunday, January 18, 3 pm. Tickets, starting from $45, are available at the CCPA Ticket Office, by calling (562) 467-8818, or at

You’ll be ROCKIN’ AT THE BEACH when Dean Torrence and his band the Surf City All Stars get the party started with Jan & Dean hits (such as The Little Old Lady From Pasadena and the No. 1 tune Surf City) and other popular Surf music tunes. Teen idol Frankie Avalon commands the stage in the second half with hits that charmed generations, including Venus, Why, and DeDe Dinah.

In the post-Twist/pre-Beatles era, crooner Frankie Avalon made audiences swoon with a catchy collection of hits, including Bobby Sox to Stockings and the No. 1 songs Why and Venus. Avalon also charted with the songs Just Ask Your Heart, I’ll Wait for You, and A Boy Without a Girl.

A child prodigy who won local contests playing the trumpet, Avalon scored televised appearances on The Perry Como Show and The Jackie Gleason Show by the time he was 12 years old.

Those television credits paved the way for a successful acting career with featured roles in the popular films Beach Party, Muscle Beach Party, and Bikini Beach, all of which also featured popular ex-Mouseketeer Annette Funicello.

Avalon and Funicello soon became icons in American film history. Avalon also appeared in Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, The Take, and John Wayne’s The Alamo.

Along with high school buddy Jan Berry, Dean Torrence co-founded the hit Surf-Rock duo Jan & Dean. The two scored a string of high-energy Surf and beach song hits, including Drag City, Dead Man’s Curve, Honolulu Lulu, and Ride the Wild Surf.

The lineup also includes the Surf City All Stars, which consists of Al Jardine and David Marks, original members of theBeach Boys band.
