CCPD Checkpoint Nets Five DUI Arrests

A Culver City Police Department DUI / CDL Checkpoint on Saturday, December 27 resulted in five arrests for driving under the influence.

The checkpoint was located at La Cienega Blvd. and Smiley Ave. between the hours of 6 pm and 2 am. Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers and the public.

According the Culver City Police Department the DUI/Driver's License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries.

A major component of these checkpoints are the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drugged impaired, bringing about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers.

The breakdown of the results of this checkpoint:

• 1842 vehicles passed through the checkpoint

• 703 drivers checked at the checkpoint

• 5 DUI suspects arrested

• 4 suspended drivers were arrested and released with a citation

• 12 unlicensed drivers were arrested and released with a citation

• 16 vehicles were towed

The Culver City Police Department will be conducting additional DUI/Driver's License Checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols throughout the upcoming year in its ongoing commitment to lowering deaths and injuries upon our streets and highways.
