For most of the season St. Francis was rolling. But losses in its last two games moved the team to third place in the Mission League.

Often in the CIF playoffs a third place team will be assigned a road game against a league champion. So that's what we have here Friday night.

But, clearly, St. Francis is better than most third place teams. It lost to a pair of powerhouse teams, Serra and Chaminade

The game will start at 7 pm. Playoff games are supposed to start at 7:30 but the schools agreed to the time change.

The Vikings finished second in the Ocean League with a 4-1 record, losing only to Culver City in overtime.

After routing Hawthorne, 42-0 last Friday Santa Monica will host Channel Islands of Oxnard Friday at 7:30 pm in a first round CIF playoff game.

Although the Mariners lost their regular season finale to Salesian, 42-3 they received a CIF playoff invitation. They'll travel to Rio Hondo Prep Friday night

Patrick Brown's 35 years as the Eagles' football coach ended in a 56-21 loss to Sierra Canyon. Brentwood needed a win to have a chance for a CIF playoff berth.

School officials had decided to leave the matter of choosing next year's coach until this season ended and attention will turn to that matter now.

What remains is the annual banquet in mid-January to honor this season's team.

Brown will remain at Brentwood as a teacher. Asked about next season he replied "I'll be the team's biggest fan."

Like Brentwood, Windward didn't make the CIF playoffs. The Alpha League's three playoff representatives will be Paraclete, Sierra Canyon and Viewpoint.

In its final game Kilpatrick defeated Kilpatrick, 61-32 to finish with a 7-3 record.

The Gondoliers (8-2) are the No. 3 seed for the LA City Section playoffs.

Two-time champion Narbonne is the No. 1 seed, with Crenshaw No. 2.

The coaches of all three teams all felt their team had a chance for the No. 1 seed.

Venice completed its regular season with a 56-0 victory over Westchester and will begin the playoffs Friday night with a home game against Locke.
