Dear Editor

Dear Editor:

As a veteran teacher in Culver City Unified School District I feel fortunate to work in a community that values and supports excellence in education.

During my tenure I have had the wonderful opportunity to work with numerous dedicated individuals. One of those people, Steve Levin, is a candidate for the Culver City Board of Education.

Steve has spent countless hours supporting and volunteering for classroom programs, PTA events and booster club activities as well as fulfilling a leadership role as President.

I've had the privilege of watching him interact and engage with students. Bringing his expertise as a NASA scientist, Steve has devoted time in classes to explore topics from black holes and dark matter to space travel and the current Juno mission. Speaking with students, he fuels their sense of wonder and curiosity.

As a leader, Steve has worked with parents and staff as part of our school team. He has actively supported upgrading our computer lab and helped to promote the Farragut Technology Initiative.

Steve understands the importance of using technology as a tool to prepare students for the rigorous demands of the new Common Core and future science education standards. He has also supported professional development and resources for teachers as we embark on this journey.

Parents today lead extremely busy lives. It can be a challenge to step up and become actively involved. Despite family and professional demands, Steve has never hesitated to take on a leadership role. It's easy to see why he has been the recipient of the PTA Honorary Service Award and Sony Volunteer of the Year Award.

Through his service to our school community Steve has a first hand understanding of how schools operate. As parent of three children attending Culver City schools, he values educational excellence. Finding solutions through problem solving and communication, Steve is a facilitator.

It is for all of these reasons that I endorse Steve Levin for the Culver City Board of Education.
