Culver Rape Suspect Captured

On Wednesday, November 7 an alleged rape of a mentally disabled woman occurred on Metro bus 217 in Culver City.

The victim is an 18-year-old female, has a mental capacity equivalent to a 10-year-old. At the time of the assault she was riding the bus home from school.

Extensive media coverage of the incident resulted in the South Los Angeles Sheriff's Station receiving a tip around 11 p.m. on Thursday giving them the location of the alleged suspect.

Based on the tip, deputies located and arrested Suspect Kerry Trotter at a residence located in the 1400 Block of West 99th Street in Los Angeles.

Detectives from the Sheriff Department's Special Victims Bureau responded to South Los Angeles Station and positively identified the suspect. An interview of the suspect was conducted, followed by a search of the location where the suspect was residing, which provided additional evidence to support the allegations.

The suspect was booked at South Los Angeles Station on the charge of Rape with a bail of $1 million

Trotter has an extensive criminal history, including charges of sexual assault.

The suspect and victim boarded the bus at the same time at Expo Line Station at La Cienega Blvd. and Jefferson Blvd., in Culver City. Trotter followed the teenager to the rear of the bus, where he allegedly stood and faced her and positioned himself between her legs and sexually assaulted her.

A witness, the only other passenger on the bus, attempted to get the bus driver’s attention. After about 10 minutes the suspect stopped his assault and exited the bus when it reached the last stop at the Culver City Transit Center at Sepulveda Blvd and Slauson Avenue. The victim reported the rape to the bus driver at that time.
