Sister City Youth Ambassador Travel

Program Set

Nine local high school students have been selected to represent the Culver City Sister City Committee as part of the Trilateral Youth Ambassador Program funded by the U.S. State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, in connection with Sister Cities International.

Culver City Sister City Committee, Inc. was awarded a grant to participate in the youth exchange program. Sister Cities International, with the help of Donna Thayer, CCSCC – Youth Director have put the local program together.

The participating students will be briefed, educated and involved in projects in Washington D.C., at UCLA., in Culver City and in various cities in Mexico. This program will include students visiting here from Sister Cities of Lethbridge, Canada and Uruapan, Mexico.

Christine Ferreira will accompany and chaperone four of the students to Mexico, while the remaining five students will study in Culver City and at UCLA before traveling to Washington, D.C. to complete their portion of this exciting program.

The Trilateral North America program is designed to allow three cities linked through Sister Cities International to work together in designated areas including environmental issues and poverty reduction and prevention.

Uruapan was Culver City’s first Sister City, starting in 1964, and the relationship with Lethbridge began in 1989.
