During the day this Saturday (9 a.m.to 3 p.m.) enjoy browsing a great Yard Sale on the front lawn of the Culver City Scout House, 10866 Culver Blvd. There’ll be a vast array of goodies, including holiday decorations, toys and games, camping equipment and more. The sale is sponsored by the Friends of Culver City Scout House (FOCCSH) a non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation. More this Saturday: the Culver City Emblem Club #254 in conjunction with the Gardena Club #257 will be presenting a Luncheon & Fashion Show beginning with a social at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at noon (a bountiful salad and dessert buffet). The show begins at 1 p.m., an admission is by a donation of $15. The event will be held at the Culver City Elks Lodge, 11160 Washington Place. Call (310) 839-8891 for reservations.

Then, on Saturday night, Grace Church will spotlight John Cannon, master of pipe organ performances. John has played at York Minister and Wells Cathedral in England and has been awarded scholarships and prizes for his excellence. Justly proud of its pipe organ, concert planners have promised that this Cannon will blow the roof off Grace Church! There’s no charge for the event, but donations will benefit Grace’s Performing Arts Ministry. The church is located at 4427 Overland Avenue. For additional information call (310) 559-1027.

Then, for a change of pace post-organ concert, how about dropping by the Scarlet Lady Saloon? Local band"Hound dog Dave and the Mel-tones" will be playing there Saturday night from 9 to 1 a.m. The Scarlet Lady’s located at 5411 Sepulveda Blvd., so you won’t have far to go!

If you get this paper today, Thursday – don’t forget that this year the city-wide emergency drill formerly held on December 7, is tonight from 7 p.m. to 8. to coordinate with the California Great Shake-Out. Don’t forget to prominently display your “OK” sign for counting by roving CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) members, who will report the numbers and then participate in a drill at the City Yard on Jefferson Blvd.

Oh, yum. History, hors d’oeuvres and wine! The historic Culver Hotel, 9400 Culver Blvd in downtown Culver City will be the site of the next Culver City Chamber of Commerce Mixer, set for next Thursday, October 28 from 5 p.m. to 7. Attendees will get to enjoy the newly-redecorated and restored mezzanine lounge (even Huell Howser didn’t get in to report on, thankfully). General Manager Douglas Newton is inviting all Chamber members and their guests to enjoy not only the hotel’s ambience, but sample Executive Chef Michael Compean’s creations. Reservations must be in by next Wednesday - $15 per person prepaid, or $20 at the door. Call the Chamber office at (310) 287-3850 for more information. With the election coming right up, the October 26 meeting of the Fox Hills Republican Women Federated, is bound to be spirited. The site is the Four Points Sheraton Hotel, 5990 Green Valley Circle beginning at noon, with the program to follow. Luncheon cost is $20 per person, and parking is free.
