We are fortunate to be able to vote for Meghan Sahli-Wells for City Council. She is a true visionary and an excellent communicator. I am impressed that Meghan continually demonstrates these leadership skills in her roles with the Downtown Neighborhood Association, the Linwood E. Howe PTSA and the Culver City Democratic Club. And there are numerous other examples. It is abundantly clear that whoever wins in this City Council election will be faced with some stark budget decisions. When Meghan says her decision making will be based on the values...

  • Movie Review: Mirror Mirror

    Debbie Lynn Elias|Mar 28, 2012

When director Tarsem Singh told me back in the Fall of 2011 that MIRROR MIRROR was (1) unlike anything he had done before, (2) unlike any "Snow White" story that had been previously done, (3) was filled with "color, fantasy and fun" and, (4) "you will love it" - he wasn't lying. Creative, colorful, fanciful and funny, this is one fantastic fairy tale that is hilarious fun for the whole family! MIRROR MIRROR is the stuff from which dreams and fantasies are made and I love it! Now, the tale of...

    Mar 28, 2012

In this era of polarization rather than collaboration, we need City Council representatives that are accessible, responsive and reasonable team players. We need Council members who are willing to make the tough decisions that will preserve our quality of life in Culver City. Scott Malsin has consistently demonstrated all of these qualities and more. In his long-term commitment to Culver City as an involved private citizen, Planning Commissioner and City Council person, Scott has always been glad to graciously engage with and learn from people...

  • Dear Editor

    Mar 28, 2012

I’m happy to get the chance to vote for Scott Malsin for City Council in the upcoming election. Like so many Culver City residents, I’ve come to know Scott as a persistent voice of reason on the Council, often placing himself between opposing forces to find the middle way that is best for Culver City. He has been tireless in finding new streams of revenue for our municipality without adopting a reckless pro-growth posture that would worsen local traffic and change the small town character of our city. In an era of declining budgets and fin...

  • Dear Editor

    Mar 28, 2012

There’s a lot at stake in the upcoming elections in Culver City. Our town, like every other in California, has been hit hard by the recent economic slump and the resulting budget constraints. Nevertheless, Culver City has weathered the storm better than most. So many things go into making Culver City a great place to live; however, I think one of the most important aspects is something that can’t be reduced to any single service or amenity: the fact that Culver City feels more like a “small town in a big city” than most other places in Souther...

Mr. Malsin, Integrity Matters As the candidates for City Council seek the votes of residents of the Culver City community, they make representations and promises concerning what they believe in, what they will support, vote for, and for the positions they will take once elected. The residents of this community have the right to expect that these representations are made with sincerity, integrity, and a sense of honor and commitment. The community is entitled to believe that what the candidates say trying to get elected, is what they believe in...

    Mar 28, 2012

I have had the privilege of participating in Culver City elections for the last 45 years as a candidate and supporter of candidates. Culver City residents have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to support qualified men and women who have been willing to make personal and business sacrifices in order to serve our City. Until now, I cannot remember an election in which a decision relating to the private life of a candidate became for some, more important than his/her qualifications. Scott Malsin made a choice to resign from the Council...

I am a huge supporter of Scott Malsin and have been since way before he was ever a Culver City Councilmember. I knew that with his determination, perseverance and intelligence he would be a huge asset to our city. I was right. Just look at his history. Before he was even on the council he was a major force behind the renovation of Culver West Park. Scott was instrumental in getting a grant to transform it into such a beautiful park that I even though I live near Carlson Park, I often make the trek to Culver West with my kids. Thanks to Scott,...

  • Dear Neighbors

    Mar 28, 2012

I’ve lived around the corner from Scott Malsin for the past 12 years. He is truly my “neighbor.” I got to know Scott when he was working to have trees planted along my street and throughout our neighborhood. It was the first in a long list of wonderful changes he has helped to bring to Culver West. I became more aware of his contributions to the children and youth of our city when the Culver City Council of PTAs awarded him an “Honorary Service Award” two years ago. I was responsible for weaving all of his contributions into a three minute sk...

  • Dear Editor

    Mar 28, 2012

A recent letter from Nancy Kuechle expressed her support for Scott Malsin. With all due respect for Nancy and what I believe are Mr. Malsin's good intentions, my perceptions differ. Malsin's website, under “Protecting the Character of Our City” states that “He put forward a plan that radically reduced permissible building size.. . .” Mr Malsin's Council votes have indicated otherwise. Remember the Entrada Project? Mr Malsin cast a deciding vote that effectively violated what his website says as he disregarded the will of the people-packed Counc...

  • Tebow In New York: It Had To Be

    Mitch Chortkoff|Mar 28, 2012

We all should have known. The Tim Tebow story which captivated pro football fans last season, had to get to New York. It was a good story in Denver, when the quarterback supposedly lacking skills required to succeed, led the Broncos to a division championship and a first round playoff victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. But, where else but the premier stage of New York would the saga continue? And so it happened when Payton Manning became available and the Broncos decided to gamble that...

  • Dodgers' New Era Begins With Magic

    Mitch Chortkoff, Sports Editor|Mar 28, 2012

Frank McCourt’s eight years as the Dodgers’ owner were filled with unprecedented turmoil. But, like Magic, the saga has come to an end. A group headed by Lakers’ legend Magic Johnson, funded by Mark Walter of Guggenheim Partners and including Stan Kasten, who ran the Atlanta Braves though 14 straight playoff seasons, bought the team and Dodger Stadium Wednesday for $2 billion. The group also includes Peter Gruber, part-owner of the Golden State Warriors. They also paid $150 million for half of t...

  • CCHS track and field teams excel at the California Relays

Joe Snyder and Steve Finley, Sports Editor|Mar 28, 2012
