UCLA Softball to Host NCAA Regionals

The UCLA softball team will host the Southern California NCAA Regionals this weekend beginning with their game against Lehigh at 8:30 p.m. tonight (Friday) at Easton Stadium on the UCLA campus. If the Bruins win on Friday they will play on Saturday at 2 p.m. If they win their game on Saturday they will play on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the championship round. The other two teams in the three-day four-team double-elimination tournament are San Jose State and Fullerton. The No. 9 Bruins are 42-13 and finished the Pac-12 conference with a third place record of 16-8. Lehigh of Bethlehem Pa. is 36-18 and were the first place team in their league at 16-2. San Jose State is 36-17 with a first place conference record of 16-8. Fullerton is 33-21 with a first place conference record of 16-5.The Bruins are led by the pitching of Rachel Garcia, Selina Ta’amilo and Page McDuffee. On offense UCLA relies on Kylee Perez, Paige Halstead, Bubba Nichols, Brianna Tautalafua, Madeline Jelenicki and Delany Spaulding. If the Bruins expect to reach the college softball World Series their catcher and infielders need to be at the top of their games. In softball the bases are so short there is no room for error. If the Bruins win the Regional Tournament this weekend they will advance to the Super Regionals next weekend.
