Culver City Holiday Tree Lighting, the annual downtown event presented by the Downtown Business Association and the City of Culver City in Town Plaza, will take place on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 6 pm. The location is between the Culver Hotel and the ArcLight Cinemas.

This year's event will celebrate Culver City's Centennial. The yearlong celebration will culminate in September 2017 when Culver City officially turns 100 years old.

See Santa Claus arrive in his sleigh with an official escort courtesy of the Culver City Police Officers Association as he makes a very special visit all the way from the North Pole. Children line up to jump into Santas sleigh and have their picture taken with St. Nick. There will be hot cider, hot cocoa and festive treats plus performances by Culver City High School AVPA chamber singers, a choir of Culver City elementary school singers and appearances by the Mayor and city council members.

Once again this year Culver City makes this holiday celebration "green" and energy efficient, lighting a 22-foot rocky mountain pine with 7,50 warm-white LED lights. Parking is free in municipal structures for up to one hour, or valet parking is available at four convenient Downtown locations.

Restaurants and galleries will be open. Stroll along the streets of historic downtown where many films have been shot over the past century.
