Man Killed In Culver Car Crash

A 33-year-old man was killed and his eight-year-old son was injured on Saturday when a car, allegedly stolen in Santa Monica, crashed into a vehicle driven by the victim. The car was being pursued by Culver City Police at the time of the crash.

The victim, Jorge Banda, was pronounced dead at the scene. His son was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The chase and subsequent crash started at approximately 11 am as officers from the Culver City Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle with no license plates. The police determined the vehicle was stolen.

The suspect vehicle accelerated through the intersection of Washington Blvd. and La Cienega Blvd. against a red light and then collided with the victim’s car.


CCPD officers were not involved in the accident.

The driver of the stolen vehicle, a 17-year-old female juvenile, and three other occupants fled the scene of the accident on foot. All four suspects were quickly taken into custody and transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the accident.

The passengers were Shaquill McDade, 33, Palmdale, Christian Simmons, 20, Hawthorne and Dajuan Berry, 20 from Los Angeles. Berry suffered a punctured lung. McDade is currently being held without bail awaiting a court hearing.

Surveillance cameras from the AM/PM store on the corner show one male suspect entering the store and getting a key to the restroom from the clerk. Shortly after that two Culver City Police officers entered with guns drawn looking for the suspect. The officers found him hiding in the restroom and took him into custody.


Detectives from the Culver City Police Department met with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office and obtained two felony criminal filings against the driver of the suspect vehicle: one for vehicular manslaughter and another for evading a peace officer. The 17-year -old female juvenile driver of the suspect vehicle was unlicensed and has a criminal history.
