Centaurs Sweep 2016 Ocean League

Visiting Culver City Shuts Down Beverly Hills 3-0

The Culver City High Centaur baseball team swept the Ocean 2016 League when they shutout Beverly Hills High 3-0 on a sunny Thursday afternoon, May 12 at La Cienega Park. The Centaurs have a perfect 10-0 league and the season championship as well.

Nolan Martinez started the game and pitched five innings for his fifth league victory this season. Martinez with 10 strikeouts, fanned over half of the Beverly batters he faced while allowing only one hit and three baserunners.

Max Sterner threw two innings in relief for the save. What's remarkable is that the Centaurs only gave up nine runs total in their 10 league games including unearned runs.

Jacob Weiner had a double, a triple and a run scored while Ryan Weiner had a single, a sacrifice and two runs scored to lead the Culver offense. The team scored a total of 64 runs in league games and 146 in 26 regular season games.

Their CIF Playoff hopes begin next Friday, May 20, when the Centaurs host a first-round game. Look for updates and read the complete story coming this week in the Culver City Observer.
