The Bruins and Trojans are in Seattle this weekend for the very competitive Pac-12 Track and Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday. The men and women teams from both schools are hoping to bring home at least two first place trophies but Oregon will be hard to beat.

Leading the way for the Trojan women will be sprinter Tynia Gaither. She will try to win the 100 and 200 meters and be a part of the winning 400 meter relay team. For the USC men Adoree’ Jackson hopes to win the long jump, 100 meters and run a leg on the winning 400 meter relay team.

The UCLA women are looking to pole vaulter Greta Wagner and shot putter and discus thrower Stamatia Scarvelis to score points. Both women are freshmen. The Bruin men are hoping Nichholas Scarvelis, the brother of Stamatia, will score points in the shot put and discus. Culver City High graduate Jonny Moniz is looking to place in the 400 meters and help the 400 and 1600 meter relay teams score points.

In other UCLA and USC sports, the Bruin softball team is hoping to host a regional series on May 20. They ended the regular season with a 35-13-1 record and a 16-5-1 Pac-12 record which was good enough for second place.

The USC women won the national championship in beach volleyball last weekend when they defeated No. 1 seeded Florida State in Alabama.
