Culver City Suffers Major Power Outage

January 7, 2016

Fortunately, the Grinch arrived in Culver City little late this year as power was lost to Sunkist Park and major portions of Sepulveda Boulevard on Saturday December 26. Power was restored at 1:18am Sunday morning.

According to Southern California Edison spokesman Robert Villegas the outage was caused by an equipment failure on Berryman Avenue just east of Segrell Way. No further information on the equipment that failed was available. Villegas stated that 872 residences and businesses in total were affected.

The boundaries of the outage were Le Bourget on the north, Mesmer & Major on the south, Stevens on the east and Emporia & McDonald on the west.

Sunkist Park resident Chip Netzel provided locals with up to the minute reports on Facebook on the status of the SCE repairs and requested additional patrols by the Culver City Police Department on the darkened streets.

Residents have reported the power surge created when the power was restored has damaged or destroyed some electronics in their homes. Several computers were destroyed in the Culver City Observer office as a result of the surge. Residents and business who believe they have suffered loss can file a claim with SCE at http://www.sce.com, click on the customer support tab then type claim in the search bar.
