Long-time Culver City resident Ruth Broyde Sharone was recently honored with the 2015 Spirit of Action award by the Interfaith Council of Garden Grove, Stanton and Westminster.

The Council, celebrating its 16th year of promoting interfaith engagement, nominated and selected Broyde Sharone because of her work as an inspirational speaker, peacemaker, and as "someone who calls all to build a better world through interaction and global communication."

The Spirit in Action award is given to individuals and/or organizations who demonstrate a true dedication to work within a diverse community to promote positive activities that better the community through partnership, education, and service.

In their tribute to Broyde Sharone, they wrote: "Your enthusiasm, your work in Southern California's Parliament of the World's Religions, your journalism, and most especially your voice that reaches across boundaries promoting peace and understanding both locally and internationally has not gone unnoticed. Your book Minefields and Miracles: God and Allah Need to Talk, an inspiring call to action and a narrative on your dedication to building a better world, is one of the reasons the committee chose you as one of this year's recipients."
