Community Leader Fecho Dies at 91

William Fecho, a treasured member of the Culver City community, passed away on April 29. He was 91.

Bill was born on June 11, 1923, in Linden, New Jersey. He was known on the football field as "Iron Bill Fecho." Bill served four years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to California in 1945 where he met and married his late wife, Gloria. They were married 54 years and raised two daughters.

Bill left an indelible mark on Culver City. When he first arrived, he worked at Victor's Liquor Mart, a family owned liquor store. He later went on to work as a manufacturer for Overland Machine Products, supplying airplane parts to Boeing. Bill raised his family on Elenda Street and was known as a pillar of the neighborhood. He was a founding board member of Culver National Bank in 1984 and a charter member and past President of the Culver City Exchange Club.

Known for his wit and integrity, Bill loved to talk about local and national news with his friends over coffee. He was an avid reader and had a passion for history and golf. Bill's greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and dear companion, Lillian Happy.

He is survived by his two daughters: Claudia Johnstone (Paul Johnstone) of Honolulu and Diane Fecho (Tom Moriarty) of Marina del Rey; three grandchildren: Chris Johnstone (Erica Johnstone), Doug Johnstone (fiancé Stephanie Deweese), and Samantha Moriarty; and two great-grandchildren: William and Kate Johnstone.

Private services will be held for the family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in his memory to the Culver City Exchange Club or

Westside Neighborhood School.
