Former Culver High Grad Langley Dies

June 7, 1924- March 8, 2015

Arthur Langley Jr. was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, to Arthur and Margaret (Bailey) Langley. In 1950 the family moved to Los Angeles, where he was among the first graduating class at Culver City High.

He joined the United States Marines upon graduation and is a veteran of the Korean War. He became a United States citizen in 1956.

He met his wife, Carol Ann (Nelson) Langley, at their workplace and after their marriage on July 2, 1960, in Las Vegas, they settled down in Culver City where they started their family.

In 1966 they moved to Oregon where Art worked at the Oregon State Penitentiary until his retirement in 1989. They moved to their small farm in Scio in 1971 where they built their house themselves and settled down to enjoy life.


Art loved to travel and together they traveled to every state in the United States except for Delaware. They traveled across Canada and to five countries in Europe and even got as far south as Venezuela plus several Caribbean countries. While in the Marine Corps he traveled to Korea, Japan and Hong Kong. He was always ready to take another trip.

He was active in the Civil Air Patrol in Salem and eventually became post commander. Art and Carol were very active in the Good Sam Club and they helped start the Willamette Sams in Albany. He later became an Oregon Assistant State Director of the Good Sam Club.

He was active in the Linn Genealogy Society and wrote its monthly newsletter for many years. He has been active in the Scio Christian Church and enjoyed helping the church feed the high school kids once a week.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; sons Mark Langley of Antelope, California, and Cody Langley of Scio; daughters Margaret Ann "Margie" Langley of Scio and Jamie Langley of Scio; mother Margaret Langley of Hemet, California; brother Ronald Langley of Hemet, California; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Langley; and grandsons Robert Fultz and Lucas Waldher.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. March 14 at Scio Christian Church with a private burial at a later time.
