Billingsley’s Steakhouse

A West Los Angeles landmark for more years than anyone can recall, Billingsley’s is offering two Valentine’s Day specials that its patrons will definitely remember. Whether your taste runs to steak or seafood – or both – this restaurant has you covered.

Imagine sitting down in comfortable, welcoming surroundings that feature an old school classic ambiance, and enjoying a magnificent steak and lobster dinner that includes a glass of champagne, all for $42.95. Or a sumptuous seafood dinner for two at $49.95 – and that includes a glass of champagne for each happy diner. These specials are available February 12th through 15th, so plan to come back and try them both.

And then there’s Billingsley’s regular menu, exemplifying traditional American cooking and providing an ample selection of dishes to satisfy just about any craving based on good, home-cooked food. On days other than holidays, diners can also choose from several early bird specials. There are daily specials as well, which, like the early bird specials, include soup or salad, potato or rice, vegetable, garlic cheese toast, beverage and dessert.

The garlic cheese toast that accompanies many of the meals is definitely addictive. There is a full bar to meet your every libation desire. A selection of starters is available, including shrimp cocktail, fried clams, mushrooms, chili cheese fries and other treats. The extensive menu is bound to whet your appetite.

And whether that appetite runs to lighter fare such as soup, salad or sandwiches, to sourdough melts, to pastas, to barbeque, or to the prime rib and steak entrees for which the restaurant is so well known, you will leave smiling.

Creme de la Crepe Bistro

L’amour, toujours l’amour . . .

French is known as the language of love, so it could be said that every day at Creme de la Crepe Bistro is infused with the Valentine’s Day spirit. Certainly, it’s easy to fall in love with the delicious creations available during breakfast, lunch, dinner and happy hour (daily, 3 p.m – 6 p.m.) – and the desserts are divine.

To start off your day ooh la la style, there’s a variety of waffles and French toast, buckwheat breakfast crepes made with gluten-free batter, sweet breakfast crepes, omelets and other egg dishes, plus various healthy options. The Omelet de Provence, combining pesto, tomatoes, mozzarella, avocado and asparagus, is one of the many temptations available.

Lunch offers appetizers, salads, specialty sandwiches, savory crepes, quiches and house specialties, one of which is Beef Bourguignon, beef stew marinated in a red wine sauce, served over mashed potato. The burgers on a brioche bun are truly unique, such as the Cousteau, a jumbo lump crab burger with tomatoes, watercress, basil aioli and coleslaw.

Creative choices abound in the expansive dinner menu, including a pan seared salmon that can be prepared crusted with purple mustard and spiced citrus, blackened and covered with shrimp, crab and fresh salsa, or drizzled with passion fruit, dill and beurre blanc sauce.

The desserts . . . ah, the desserts . . . Chocolate lovers will quickly become enamored of the Fondue au Chocolat with seasonal fruit. There are many scrumptious dessert crepes, all served with house made whipped cream. You will definitely lose your head over La Guillotine, a marriage of mango, bananas, Bailey’s, ice cream, powdered sugar and Nutella. You can even create your dessert by starting with a plain crepe and adding from an assortment of toppings and fruits – and you can choose to have your crepe prepared flambé with Grand Marnier or Bailey’s.

Wine, beer and dessert wines (house Muscat, Kir, Kir Royale) are available. À votre santé!

George Petrelli Famous Steakhouse

Harry Culver’s first ads in the early part of the last century read “All roads lead to Culver City.” And happy patrons definitely keep beating a path to Petrelli’s, a family-owned restaurant since 1931 and a Culver City landmark that continues to delight its diners with USDA choice beef that is dry-aged and custom cut on the premises.

In addition to the steaks for which it is so well known, patrons enjoy an enticing array of selections including chicken, seafood, pasta, baked lamb shank, eggplant Parmigiana and additional Italian dishes. Dinners include both soup and salad. And the burgers have rightfully been described as amazing. There are appetizers, salads, desserts, even a special children’s menu for those 12 and under. Add the “famiglia” warmth of Petrelli hospitality and a full bar and you have an unbeatable combination.

This Valentine’s Day (be sure to make reservations) patrons can enjoy a filet mignon dinner for two for $57.95 that includes Caesar salad, vegetables, baked potato and a shared dessert of crème brulee, cheesecake or tiramisu. Delizioso! This special will also be available on Sunday, February 15. Additionally, the regular dinner menu will be served Saturday, February 14 from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Although not available February 15, other Sundays offer an extensive brunch, including specialty beverages such as Mimosas, Bloody Marys and Mojitos. Children can dine from a special menu, with their elders opting for entrees as Petrelli’s Omelet, combining tender strips of steak, bell peppers, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes and Swiss or cheddar cheese. Served with breakfast potatoes or seasonal fruit and toast, this is one of the many dishes making brunch at Petrelli’s memorable.

The Petrellis have established a tradition of serving the best in fine quality food while maintaining reasonable prices. Luckily for generations of satisfied patrons, that commitment is thoroughly engrained into the family’s genes.

King's Kabob

It's All Greek to Me!

If you're driving west on Sawtelle off Sepulveda, don't blink, otherwise you might miss this cute, take-out window cafe, stocked with some of the most authentic Greek food to be found.

The Spanakopita (spinach and cheese pie) is reason enough to visit, with the requisite lightly layered crust as thin as air and melts in your mouth. The kabobs -- chicken, beef, lamb and kafta (a mixture of ground beef and spices) are grilled fresh before your eyes, which you can close if you like and listen to the meat spit and sizzle while breathing in the Mediterranean aromas of fresh onion, parsley and spices. Most entrees are served with rice, fresh hummus, cucumber yogurt and warm pita bread. The falafel is just right and the cucumber salad is diced and drizzled in oil and spices to perfection.

Indulge in some traditional baklava, if you dare to endure the richness.

When you're driving home during the holiday bustle, too weary from Sepulveda's traffic to bear the thought of cooking, forgo the army of fast-food drive-thru windows that lure you with blinding lights and kooky cartoon hosts only to leave you stuck at home with flat burgers, luke-warm processed chicken nuggets and cold fries. Swing west onto Sawtelle, pull up the southside curb and order up a unique treat for dinner tonight. Go Greek at King's Kabob and you are sure to go Greek again as this healthy, flavor-rich fare is sure to become a favorite.
