Parks, Recreation & Community Services Commission

Here are some highlights from the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS) Commission meeting of February 3. At this meeting, the PRCS Commission:

Heard an informational item regarding Youth and Family Programs from the Recreation Division of the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department. The information was presented by Recreation Supervisor Dawn Melton and Recreation Coordinators Stafford Hamlin, Arames White and Mike Wood. Topics discussed included the Culver City After School Recreation Program (CCARP), Day Camp, the Teen Center and its Programs, Parks and Playground Programs and Annual Special Events.

Considered making a recommendation to the City Council regarding adoption of a resolution naming the Culver City Skate Park in honor of former PRCS Commissioner Anita Shapiro. Made a recommendation that the name of the Culver City Skate Park remain "The Culver City Skate Park."


• (1) Selected a topic for Parks, Recreation and Community Services Commission "Community Conversations – Topic #6" with the working title "Character and Community Building in Youth Athletics;" (2) formed the Community Conversations – Topic #6 Ad Hoc Subcommittee; and, (3) appointed Commissioner Garland and Commissioner Marin to the newly-formed Ad Hoc Subcommittee.

• Heard Updates from the PRCS Commission Ad Hoc Subcommittees and representative appointees to various outside Associations and City Committees, including updates from the Sponsorship/Financial Support Ad Hoc Subcommittee and the Youth Sports Advisory Ad Hoc Subcommittee. Commissioner Kay R. Heineman, representative to the Culver City Senior Citizens Association Board of Directors, also gave a brief report and noted that the "Nifty 90's/Valentine Party" is being held at the Senior Center on Friday, February 13, 2015 at 11:30 a.m.
