Free 3-Month Training Available For Health Care Occupation

On Wednesday, February 4 and February 16 at 6 pm, all are invited to learn more about the important role In-Home Support Services Provider (IHSS Providers) play in health care and the free, three-month training program offered at West Los Angeles College. IHSS Providers are a non-licensed healthcare workers who assists elderly and disabled individuals in their own home with services including: nutrition, checking vital signs, infection prevention, dressing and bathing, assistance with household chores, and basic medical care. IHSS training prepares individuals to gain entry-level jobs in the healthcare industry and provides the foundation for higher level positions such as Certified Nursing Assistant, Home Health Aide, Geriatric Care Technician, and Nurse.

As the population ages, job growth and demand for IHSS Providers is rising. In fact, the field of personal and home care aides is among the fastest growing occupations in California with a projected 25% growth rate through 2016. California is expected to need more than 40,000 IHSS Providers during this period.

West's certificate program is made up of two non-credit classes, totaling 108 hours. Students pay no fees or tuition. They just need to cover the cost of books and materials. Both courses are offered in a condensed, 13-week format specially designed to help participants get to work in the healthcare field as quickly
