Culver Chamber Endorses Prang and Houston

New Leadership Ahead For Scandal Plagued Agencies

October 9, 2014

The Board of Directors of the Culver4 City Chamber of Commerce voted to endorse West Hollywood Councilmember Jeff Prang for Los Angeles County Tax Assessor and El Segundo resident Scott Houston for the West Basin Water District Seat 4 in the upcoming November 4 General Elections.

The Culver City Chamber held a public "Meet the Candidates" Forum for both open seats and following the forum at the Chamber monthly board meeting is endorsements were openly discussed among Chamber Board Members and a secret ballot was held were both Houston and Prang received the majority of the vote on the first ballot.

"Jeff Prang's long service on the West Hollywood City Council as well as work in the Los Angeles County Tax Assessors Office showed Jeff to be very qualified and received our Chamber's endorsement for election on November 4," said Culver City Chamber Chair Bill Reider.

Steven Rose, Culver City Chamber, CEO said, "Scott Houston's involvement and knowledge of water showed him to be the outstanding choice to fill the vacant District 4 position on the West Basin Water District. Scott's broad depth of knowledge on importation, recycling and education on water issues make him the only choice to fill this important seat on the West Basin Board.

Both agencies have been plagued by scandals. Los Angeles County Tax Assessor John Nougez is awaiting trial on dozens of lowering property tax fees for political doors, while water board Treasurer Ron Smith resigned and pleaded guilty to using a district "slush fund" for personal expenses. Nougez has refused to resign more than two years after his arrest and continues to draw his $192,000 per year salary.

The seat Houston is running for is not the same seat that Smith resigned from. Houston, if elected, would take the seat held by longtime board member Ed Little who resigned last spring for health reasons. Little, a former Culver City Councilman, died in September.

The Chamber urges all residents that have not registered to vote to do so and all registered voters to partake in representative democracy and let your voice be heard on November 4, 2014. For further information about the Chamber's choice please the chamber at (310) 287-3850.
