Former Culver High Teacher Loomer Dies

February 6, 2014

Wellington Wesley Loomer ("Pete") passed away on January 27, 2014. His life was full, complex, and varied.

He gave up a promising career as a band singer and actor to serve his country as a Marine during the Korean War. Being touched by poetry during the war, he changed his path, choosing to share his passion for literature with others.

Following an extensive education, he continued his service as a teacher at Culver High for 33 years. He declined offers of university professorship, preferring to remain at the crossroads, guiding and enriching young minds.

He was a hero to many, and was adored by his bride Alicia, by his sister Donna, by his children--Ann (and Paul) and Don (and Arlene)--by his grandchildren--Jacob, Daniel, Rebekah, Nathaniel, Stephanie, Eliana, Alyssa, and Jennifer--and by his great grandchildren Jackson, Kasriel, Kaia, Meira, Ezra, and Winifred. He will be greatly, greatly missed.

Services were held on February 5 at Holy Spirit Church in Fresno with Marine Honor Guard at Belmont Memorial Park on February 6 at 11 .am.
