It's official. Culver City High football star Stanley Norman has transferred to Serra High in Gardena.

Serra football coach Scott Altenberg confirmed the speculation that began last week that Norman had taken out transfer papers. Norman then enrolled in classes at his new school in Gardena.

Altenberg also said the player's family has moved into the Serra area.

The Observer was among the media outlets that had gathered information leading to the likelihood Norman would be leaving Culver City, which won the Ocean League championship last season.

Norman, who excelled for two years at Culver City, will have two remaining high school years before going to college.

Norman, a star pass receiver, defensive back and kick returner, joins a team that went 13-1 last season, losing only in its final playoff game.

As a high profile football school, Serra is chosen for televised games more often than Culver City.

There's a growing trend toward transferring in the CIF and a possibility that Culver City could lose more players this way before next season begins.

Transferring isn't limited to football players. In a recent girls basketball game between Culver City and Serra, four players had been at St. Bernard High the previous season.

Michelle Curry played for Culver City. The other three played for Serra.

Transferring has increased recently in boys basketball. The CIF had a policy of requiring transfers to sit out one year of play. Now it's one month.
