At theJanuary 14 CCUSD School Board meeting the Culver City Education Foundation presented a $155,000 check for a two-year grant from the California Community Foundation.

$125,000 of this grant will support the ART of TEACHING program over the course of two years, providing professional development training in mathematics for nine

teachers and creating mentor teachers in two CCUSD schools.

Each of these teachers will receive approximately 130 hours of training to further develop their pedagogical repertoire. These teachers will also be a part of the Mathematics Leadership Corps (MLC), collaboration between CCUSD, the Cotsen Foundation for the ART of TEACHING, and Loyola Marymount University, with support from the Leonetti/O'Connell Family Foundation, Louis L. Borick Foundation, and California Community Foundation.

MLC provides two research-based professional development programs: the ART of TEACHING for elementary schools and LMU's Center for Math and Science Teaching for secondary schools. Working with these programs will enable teachers throughout the district to develop more resources for engaging their pupils in math, thus increasing student interest, knowledge, understanding and success.

The remaining $30,000 of the grant will help CCEF pay for two annual independent audits (audits are a critical requirement for many major grant applications) and will enable it to license and implement a new donor-tracking database. This will help build the capacity so more funding can be generated in the years to come.
