Culver Fire Fights Colby Blaze

January 23, 2014

Culver City fire fighters along with Santa Monica and Beverly Hills Fire formed a strike team to assist with the Colby Fire in the San Gabriel Mountains last week. Officials said the strike team was deployed to protect a water facility, homes and some avocado orchards

The Colby fire burned almost 2,000 acres, five homes before it was brought under control.

The strike team was dispatched on Thursday January 16. The team was on the fire lines for approximately 28 hours. Three men are in custody suspected of starting the fire when their campfire spread out of control. Along with low humidity and high temperatures, gusty Santa Ana winds fanned the flames.
