For years, West Los Angeles College has been a place where kindergarten through high school students could enrich their academic skills through programs like Westside Extension, Upward Bound and the on-campus preschool. Now, by working with community partners, West is creating even more unique learning experiences for youth in a college setting. In October, for example, Culver City students filled the West Fine Arts Theater to grill the candidates running for the Culver City Unified School District Board at Ask to Know, a series of panel programs where the kids ask the questions.

Also in October, 2,000 Los Angeles Unified School District students visited fun, hands-on stations all over the college that celebrated science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics at S.T.E.A.M. Nation sponsored by STAR Education which operates Culver City's popular Star Eco Station. Even Mad Mike, "The Wizard of Wiring" from the cable program "Pimp My Ride," was there to give an entertaining presentation on electricity.

"Education is not just something that happens in a traditional classroom setting," said West's President Nabil Abu-Ghazaleh. "So, it is our pleasure to partner with organizations like these who engage students in creative ways and provide valuable educational enrichment."

S.T.E.A.M .: STAR Education's S.T.E.A.M. Nation rolled over 2,000 Los Angeles Unified School District K-8th grade students to West Los Angeles College to experience fun, hands-on exhibitions and discussions on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
