The shooting at Terminal 3 at LAX on Friday and the subsequent shutdown of the airport and all roads leading into the facility caused massive traffic disruption throughout Los Angeles on Friday.

Most affected in Culver City was Culver CityBus Line 6 local and rapid which carried riders on Sepulveda Boulevard between the MetroRail Green Line Station near LAX on the south and UCLA on the north.

Culver CityBus officials, realizing that line 6 crossed Century Boulevard swung into action rerouting buses to attempt to circumvent one of the worst traffic tie-ups in recent memory.

Their efforts were met with limited success.

Transportation Director Art Ida commented, "Because of this incident we had to detour down Manchester eastbound to Airport. We also sent buses down La Tijera to Airport. Buses coming out of Green Line Station made a right turn onto Imperial Highway; left on La Cienega; and left at Arbor Vitae. We tried to turn buses around at Manchester and then deadhead back northbound. It took a while to even get the buses turned around between 20 – 30 minutes before going back northbound."

In the end Ida, who reported bus delays of 45 minutes to 1 ½ hours lamented, "We tried every street but were not successful."

The shooter, Paul Ciancia, has been charged with capital murder for the shooting death of TSA officer Gerardo Hernandez. Two other TSA officers were wounded along with a traveler before airport police arrived and shot Ciancia.
