After losing their opener to Los Alamitos, 27-0, the Pirates have defeated Bellflower, 27-6 and Long Beach Wilson, 34-13.

Culver is tuning up for its Ocean League schedule and can gain some satisfaction from the struggles of key league opponents.

Santa Monica lost to Mater Dei, 37-0 and Inglewood lost to Stockdale of Bakersfield, 55-12.

SANTA MONICA

A year ago Santa Monica lost to Mater Dei, 51-0. The rematch Friday night at Corsair Field wasn’t quite as one-sided but the vast difference in the teams remained evident.

Santa Monica lost, 37-0 and couldn’t get much offense going against a superior defense.

Four different quarterbacks played for Santa Monica but the Vikings completed only three passes.

Mater Dei is ranked No. 3 in the state. Santa Monica, which had won its two previous games, will play at Valencia Friday night.

ST. MONICA

A 24-6 loss to Mission Prep in San Luis Obispo brought the Mariners’ record to 1-3, all in non-league games. St. Monica will play at Animo Leadership of Inglewood this Friday.

BRENTWOOD

Eli Stern, the latest in a long line of outstanding Brentwood quarterbacks, threw three touchdown passes and ran for two touchdowns in a 50-26 victory over Kilpatrick.

In a rare Thursday game this week the Eagles will be home for a 3:30 pm kickoff against Pasadena Poly. Originally the scheduled opponent was Campbell-Hall but the school won’t field a varsity team this season.

WINDWARD

Coach Alvin Cowan’s team has a 4-0 record, the latest victory being a 2-0 forfeit over Campbell-Hall, which isn’t fielding a varsity team this season.

On Friday at 3 pm Windward will host Viewpoint of Calabasas.

VENICE

When Dajuan Parham returned the opening kickoff 80 yards the Gondoliers were on their way to a 47-12 rout of host Garfield.

Alexander Diamont threw three touchdown passes and Darius Brown ran for three more.

Venice (2-2) will play at Dorsey Friday at 7 pm.
