In a home game Friday night Culver will oppose Redondo, which defeated Antelope Valley last week.

Redondo’s only loss was to Santa Monica.

This will be Culver’s second game in its newly-revamped stadium, complete with turf that favors speed. It will be a good test for a talented but inexperienced group of new players.

ALSO ON THE WESTSIDE

A capacity crowd is expected at Santa Monica College’s Corsair Field Friday night when Santa Monica High hosts perennial power Mated Dei.

Santa Monica is 2-0 following its 44-15 victory at Palisades last week. Senior running back Kwame Duggins had an outstanding game.

Mater Dei coach Bruce Rollinson has a long history of success with several of his recent quarterbacks going on to star at USC.

This season Mater Dei has a 3-0 record and has outscored its opponents, 120-20.

Last season Santa Monica traveled to Mater Dei and lost, 51-0.

ST. MONICA

The Mariners (1-2) lost to Mary Star, 24-21 last week. They’ll travel to San Luis Obispo this weekend to oppose Mission Prep.

WINDWARD

Led by game MVP Drew Bryant, Windward improved its record to 3-0 with a 21-12 victory over LA Jordan.

BRENTWOOD

The Eagles (0-1) will host Kilpatrick Friday at 3:30 pm. They had a bye last week.

VENICE

Almost annually Venice schedules high profile non-league opponents. The Gondoliers lose some of those games.

However, they benefit from the experience and then cruise through the Western League on their way to the LA City Section playoffs.

This Venice team is one of the favorites to win the City championship but the current record is 1-2.

Venice lost a home game to Oaks Christian Friday night, 41-31 but only after staging a dramatic comeback from a 28-point deficit.

Highly regarded quarterback Alexander Diamont threw a 49-yard touchdown pass that brought Venice within two points, 35-33. However, that’s as close as the Gondoliers got.

On Friday Venice will play at Garfield.
