Under Obamacare, enrollment in health exchanges in California begins on October 1. But many are still confused and anxious about what that means.

At EarthFest LA, a panel discussion comprised of insurance and policy leaders will help attendees understand what the new law means for them and what actions they should take, particularly the self-insured and uninsured. The accredited community college is located at 9000 Overland Avenue in Culver City. Use the Jefferson entrance between La Cienega and Overland for the best parking.

EarthFest LA is a family-friendly environmental / healthy living expo and outdoor concert. The expo includes the aforementioned Obamacare forum, information booths and demonstrations, and the popular STAR Eco Station for the kids. The outdoor concert features smooth jazz artist and Grammy winner Paul Brown, hit band Ambrosia, Latin-groove artist Freddie Ravel, and up-and-coming singer/songwriter Chris Lightfoot.

Obamacare panelists will be led by Dr. Mark Pearson who is currently working with the University of Southern California on a project funded by Covered California. Covered California is the State run entity which will operate an online health insurance marketplace where the self-insured and uninsured can comparison-shop for health insurance.

Pearson has led Health Insurance Exchange, Medicare, Medicaid, TANF, CHIP, SHCIP and variety of other government and education projects and programs throughout the United States. He serves as an advisor to both policymakers and program administrators. Currently, Pearson is managing a portfolio of government health outreach and education programs and projects, as he launches a seminal study on the impact of Affordable Care Act on urban, suburban and rural communities.

The panel discussion begins at 10 a.m. in the college’s General Classrooms building in room 160. Information booths and activities begin at 11 on the adjacent courtyard and lawn overlooking Culver City and West Los Angeles. The concert begins at 2 p.m. and is also on the lawn.

Low umbrellas, beach chairs and picnic baskets are welcome. No alcohol or dogs are permitted.
