Former Centaur Football Star Injured

New Mexico State University freshman Miles Washington, a graduate of Culver City High and a former Centaurs football star, suffered a cervical fracture on April 13 during a spring football scrimmage at New Mexico State’s Aggie Stadium,

Washington, who plays cornerback on the school's football team, was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso, Texas, and underwent a six-hour surgery on his spine.

He was later moved to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, where he received a second surgery to stabilize his spine. Since his injury, Miles has been surrounded constantly by family and friends while in the hospital, and he’ in positive spirits under the circumstances.

“We are very sorry to learn about Miles’ injury. Miles and his family are in our thoughts. At this point we are waiting to hear from the doctors. Our hopes and prayers are with them” said New Mexico State Interim President Dr. Manuel Pacheco.

“This is a tough situation. We just hope and pray the best for Miles. The entire team will be praying for him and we are just going to believe that good things will come,” said head coach Doug Martin.

A car wash fundraiser will be held this Saturday from 8 am to 3pm at Bourbon Street Grill located at 601 S. Prairie Avenue, Inglewood.
