Honoring those devastated in the Oklahoma tornadoes, Culver City-based LA Spice has created a special menu that celebrates the heart and soul of Oklahoma cooking.

For each item sold from this special menu $1 will be donated to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. The specials were offered beginning Monday, June 3 and will continue through Sunday, June 9.

The special menu includes Shrimp and Corn Hush Puppies with Caramelized Onion Dip, half a BBQ Chicken served with Sweet Potato Mash, Crispy Okra, and Corn and Red Pepper Cornbread, Peach Cobbler, and Old Fashioned Oklahoma Pecan Pie with Fresh Whipped Cream.

Said LA Spice owner LeAnne Schwartz, “Our hearts go out to the victims of the Oklahoma tornadoes. We can’t be there to help cook for them, but we can show our support through supporting the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma”. According to the organization, they are the “largest private hunger relief organization in Oklahoma” with a mission of “Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope”. A member of Feed America, the organization provides food to over 90,000 mouths each week. They have committed to using 100% of the donations toward the Oklahoma tornadoes.

In the past two weeks, Oklahoma has been hit by numerous storms and tornadoes. News source Huffington Post writes that on May 20, Moore, Oklahoma was caught in a mile wide tornado that killed 24 people and destroyed 4,000 homes and businesses in the suburb of Oklahoma City.

It was the deadliest tornado in two years for the US, with the National Weather Service ranking it the second most powerful category of tornado. According to CNN, again on Friday, May 31, the state suffered from another storm that generated at least five tornadoes, killing 16.
